NORTON DITTO CO-SPONSORS

“HEROES TO HIRES DAY”
TO HELP AREA VETERANS FIND JOBS

Norton Ditto, the better men’s specialty retailer with stores in The Woodlands and Houston, played a key role in HEROES TO HIRES DAY, a three-part career day for several hundred soldiers on Wednesday, August 1, at Ellington Field.

Along with and ESGR, a Department of Defense agency, and Operation Suits for SoldiersTM, Norton Ditto co-sponsored HEROES TO HIRES DAY to help military veterans access jobs—those transitioning into the civilian workforce as well as those who have already severed and are unemployed or under-employed. Participation was open at no charge to veterans and employers.

Unique to this career day was the provision of free business attire to veterans in need. The clothing operation was conducted by John Hite, General Manager of Norton Ditto–The Woodlands (Market Street) whose master tailor also provided complimentary tailoring on site for suits and sport coats selected. Nearly 200 total garments were given out.

The clothing had been collected in a drive last spring by Operation Suits for SoldiersTM. This included new garments from Norton Ditto’s suppliers as well as top-quality gently-worn suits and sport coats from area leaders. Among contributors was President George H.W. Bush (41).

In March 2012, this Texas 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization had been formed to help area veterans successfully enter the workforce, With founding sponsor Norton Ditto and other community partners like Burnett Specialists and Dress for Success Houston, Operation Suits for SoldiersTM offers free job search seminars, free interview-ready attire and other opportunities to thank and support our returning heroes.

At the day’s job fair, hosted by ESGR (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve), more than 100 employers manned booths collecting applications and conducting interviews. Participants included Baker Hughes, Burnett Specialists, BBVA Compass Bank, Houston Independent School District, IGLOO Products, HEB, METRO, M.D. Anderson, Stewart & Stevenson, Target Stores and USAA. The day began with free workshops for veterans on resume-writing, interviewing and other job search skills.
